Why might my doctor recommend removal of an adrenal gland?
The adrenal gland may require removal if it is overactive or if a tumour or lump has grown in it. Adrenal glands which are producing to much of the hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline, cortisol or aldosterone may require removal. In most cases this can be performed using a key-hole surgery. Adrenal lumps which are about 4cm or greater are also typically removed because of a greater risk of cancer.
